TWO REASONS: NUTRITION AND A RESPONSIBLE, SAFE FOOD SOURCE.
Typically our pets eat the same food day in and day out, year after year. Feeding them cheap grocery-store pet food from an anonymous source is equivalent to eating three meals a day at McDonald’s or Taco Bell, forever. Poor diet affects pets the same way it affects us. The National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences estimates obesity will occur in one third of dogs and cats. This can reduce an animal’s life by two to five years! Not to mention the risk of heart disease, diabetes, ruptured disks, gastrointestinal issues, pancreatic and liver conditions, and allergies, all a direct result of improper feeding.
SO HOW DO I KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR?
The first 5 ingredients on the back of the bag or can will tell you all you need to know. A wholesome product should be made up of meat-based protein and NOT fillers or grains such as wheat, wheat gluten, beet pulp, corn or soybeans. These ingredients are often used to falsely bolster protein levels. At first glance, the ingredients in your current brand may resemble that of an all-natural, holistic brand. However, pet food labels are listed in order of weight of ingredient, so the first ingredient is the most prominent in the food and so on. Two or three meats in the first five ingredients is a good indication that the food you are using is not loaded with cheap fillers.
Cheaper pet foods are not always cheaper. Holistic foods cost more per pound, but you end up using a lot less food since it is packed with nutrition and not fillers. Less volume per day often means that a diet of natural pet food is only minimally more expensive compared to larger servings of cheaper, less-healthy brands. With grocery-store brands, information such as where the product is made and where the ingredients come from is frequently missing from the bag. With very few exceptions, every product we sell is made and sourced in the USA. These exceptions include meats such as lamb and venison from New Zealand. We do not sell any items that are made or sourced from China.
YOU CAN TRUST THAT WE’VE DONE OUR HOMEWORK.
The foods and supplements we carry represent the very best the market has to offer, including the highest quality Human Grade pet food. Our rule is, if we wouldn’t eat it ourselves, we would never feed it to our pets (or to anyone else’s).
